The lady whips made the drive out to Vic Park fresh faced and ready to the defeat the Vic Park Reds.
We started off well getting a few runs on the board before going in to field led by the relaxed, just come back from holiday, Lisa T. Her time away obviously did her good as she pitched a great game- even getting a 3 up 3 down innings.
We defended our runs the whole way through the game with some great fielding. Our batting was even better as we took their opening pitcher by storm. Smart batting, great base running, well placed hits and a grand slam from Izzie over the “home run fence” saw our runs scored skyrocket! (our first home run of the season and it was better than we could have imagined).
We followed this up with a few more singles and ultimately forced the Reds to pull their pitcher. Unfortunately we weren’t as fantastic with the speed and accuracy of the new pitcher and were forced to go back into field. A beyond tiny back fence was our undoing as we gave away way too many runs to pass balls. Vette was brought in to pitch and did a great job despite some shoty calls from the umpire.
In the end we went down by one run to the Reds after a huge hit to right field over the home run line. We fought and fought and batted a great game. We will get them next time girls, with the home field advantage.
